
What is Takachiho Gorge?
Takachiho Gorge is one of Kyushu’s most iconic natural sites, located in northern Miyazaki Prefecture. Carved by the Gokase River, this narrow volcanic ravine is famous for its sheer basalt cliffs, lush greenery, and the cascading Manai Falls. - Amanoiwato Shrine Dedicated to the legend of Amaterasu hiding in a cave, this shrine overlooks the sacred Amanoiwato Cave, believed to be the exact location of the myth.
- Amanoyasukawara Cave
A short walk from Amanoiwato Shrine, this atmospheric riverside cave is filled with thousands of stacked prayer stones. It’s said to be where the gods gathered to discuss how to bring sunlight back to the world.
